My favorite proverb

Remember the old man with grey beard and weird hairstyle, who was so wise and call that whatever he said had become a proverb? You don't have to remember him, because the description was no way related to who had said my favorite proverb.

Before getting into that person, let's think about what makes proverbs so special. They're simple, meaningful, and applicable to more many situations. The beauty of the proverb comes from how short it is, and how catchy it is to the reader.

Now that all proverbs are special statements, what makes some proverbs more likable than the majority. The factors of deciding are mainly how relevant it is to a personal experience, how insightful it is and how poetic it is.

Now when it comes to my personal favorite proverb, it only has a single word used three times. It may not be so poetic or insightful, but that it has only one word in it fascinates me. The proverb is “Like like like”. As simple as that.

For those who are wondering what it actually means, it means “like (similar things or people) like (prefer or enjoy) like (similar things or people)”.

The person, who has said this was me when I was probably studying 9th Std. The voluntary and imposed isolations that I had faced during my childhood and the history of Indian philosophies had inspired and given enough space and time to become an active thinker when I was young.

I wanted to understand and trying to find reasons why things happen to me. My major quest was to find out why I was ridiculed for my tastes and preferences.

When I started to introspect it, I came to a conclusion that similar people would have a similar taste. So, I could have been possibly different from others that people could not make sense of my preferences.

That kind of gave a hope in life for me. I realised that I need not have to be like others and I don't even have to be liked by others, because there was a high possibility that I was different, which people might find hard to reckon.

Since, the word like played a major role in my life, I had thought over and came up with the sentence “Like like like”. That happened to answer most questions in my life that time.

Sometimes it's the simple things that change our life forever.
